Alphair JetStream™ AMF
Heavy-duty axial fans designed specifically for main mine ventilation.
Total Mine Ventilation Solutions (TMVS) is the one-stop-shop of a fully flexible, integrated suite of expertise, products, and services that provide efficiency and safety across your mine operations.
Our experienced design team can provide mine heaters in multiple configurations including: direct-fired propane/ natural gas, indirect fired fuel oil, or electric. Depending on site-specific needs, an M.I.D., SIMPLEX or M.D.A.H. can be provided. Geo-thermal and waste heat recovery inlet plenums are also available. Howden can also supply specialized, direct fired mine air heaters that produce the lowest NOx emissions available today.
As part of Howden’s Total Mine Ventilation Solutions (TMVS), we provide mine fans, all ducting, CFD modeling and all associated control and monitoring devices. Mine fan configurations include supply and exhaust that are typically arrangement #3 and #4 axial, mixed flow or centrifugal.
Howden can custom design and build E-houses for all mine ventilation systems. The E-house buildings and associated wiring, controls and electrical devices are manufactured to local codes and standards with appropriate labeling and certification.
A typical electrical system can include all step-down power transformers, switchgear, MCC’s, variable frequency drives, soft starters, UPS systems, fire suppression systems, customized PLC and HMI packages for system control and monitoring and HVAC.
We design and supply complete fuel storage and distribution systems, inclusive of storage tanks (propane, fuel oil), loading/unloading stations, propane vaporizers (electric, gas), distribution piping and controls, compound fencing and security.
Our experienced field team install, commission and service Howden’s Total Mine Ventilation Solutions (TMVS). This includes civil works, mechanical erection, field piping, electrical inter-wiring as well as mechanical, electrical and controls integration.

Our product range covers axial, centrifugal and mixed flow fans in a vast variety of configurations for both underground and surface fan applications. They provide versatility, economic advantages, low noise characteristics and outstanding aerodynamic performance.
Our heaters are capable of burning everything from natural gas and propane to waste oil. premium efficiency, serviceability, and low emissions are key to the design of a mine shaft heating system. We ensure every heater is designed to operate safely and effectively in the toughest environments.
Ventsim CONTROL allows you to operate on a fully automated and optimised mine ventilation solution, including Ventilation-On-Demand, based on vehicle and personnel presence. Our Ventsim DESIGN software is the ultimate 3D mine ventilation design solution. It allows you to create a 3D model of your tunnels, shafts and raises using your existing 3D mine drawings.
The turnkey approach to Howden’s range of ACI mine air heating technology typically consists of the mine air heater, main air supply fans, main exhaust fans, E-house complete with control system, fuel storage and distribution system, on site installation, commissioning, maintenance and training.
This course will educate participants in fundamental ventilation design and improvement strategies. Using Ventsim, course participants will model and simulate a wide variety of ventilation systems and scenarios. Participants will also learn how to optimise existing ventilation systems, in order to achieve considerable mine cost savings. All participants will receive a 30 day license of the latest version of Ventsim PREMIUM and example files for course work and post course exercises. Participants are required to bring a suitable laptop.
Howden supplies ice-making technology which produces ice water or solid ice as required during a 24-hour period, making major electricity demand savings possible on mine cooling systems.
Howden’s thermal ice storage technology enables the entire mine refrigeration plant (excluding the pumping of the chilled water) to be shut down during a power peak demand period per week.
The plant will run at maximum load at all times thus delivering maximum efficiency. As the system is designed as a stand-alone operation, it will not reduce dam storage volumes. Our plant can operate even if the main cooling plant is out of operation.
The Howden family of attenuators, or reactive silencers, has been developed specifically for applications where dust or moisture affect the attenuation properties of conventional absorptive silencers.
Conventional absorptive silencers have been used successfully over the years to handle clean air. However they do not perform as well in gas streams containing particulate matter and moisture as the absorptive material deteriorates and plate perforations become blocked.
Howden has developed a range of reactive silencers that are ideally suited for use with contaminated air and gases, or where there is moisture carry over.
Engart dust scrubbers efficiently remove dust from coal mining environments, where they are mounted either on continuous miners underground or at transfer points within ducting for aboveground dust control.
Engart dust scrubbers provide for the unsurpassed removal of dust from coal mines where contaminated air is a health hazard. Dust capture and scrubbing efficiencies of 95% of respiritable dust and 98% of total dust are achieved. Our Engart dust scrubbers offer high collection efficiencies, made possible over a wide range of volumes flows, ensuring that operating costs are kept low.
